Dalton State Women's Golf In The Hunt In Covington

The Dalton State women's golf team started the year off in impressive fashion on Tuesday, firing a program best 291 in the first round of the SCAD Atlanta Invitational.  The Lady Roadrunners sit in second place behind SCAD Atlanta in the tournament being held at the par 71, 5,800 yard, The Oaks Course in Covington, GA.

Campbellsville (KY), 291, is tied with Dalton State, while SSAC member Faulkner University is three shots behind second after shooting a 294.

Junior Caroline Griffin paced the way for the Roadrunners posting a 1-under par 70, putting her in a tie for fifth.
Newcomers Tia Teiniketo and Isabel Rijos each carded a 2-over par 73, to tie for ninth.  Sophomore Katie Dalton, 4-over par 75, and Freshman Haejin Choe, 6-over par 77, rounded out scoring for the team.

"I was pleased with how we played," said Dalton State coach Jim McGrew.  "We have some work left to do tomorrow to catch SCAD Atlanta on their home course, but if we are, who we think we are, then we will find a way to get it done."

The Roadrunners will be playing with Campbellsville(KY) and SCAD Atlanta for the final round tomorrowwith the first pairing going off at 9:54 a.m. on hole #10.
