John William “Buster” Griffith, 84, of Rossville, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017, in a local hospital.

Buster had been a resident of the Fairview Community for over 57 years and was a former member of Fairview Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, outreach leader and a Godly mentor to many.  With a strong passion for his family and lost souls, Mr. Griffith touched many lives from coaching children to helping his neighbor.  He was currently attending Silverdale Baptist Church, was retired from CSX Railroad with 40 years of service as a switchman, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.  Buster had a passion for gardening and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Ruby Griffith, brother, Carl Griffith, and sisters, Lucille Griffith and Bobbie Harp.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Patsy Smith Griffith; son, Larry (Janice) Griffith; daughters, Teena (Ric) Carroll, and Melissa (Lee) Tinker; grandchildren, Dayley, Spencer, Brandon, Erica, and Lauren; sisters, Carolyn Baswell and Barbara Jordan.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Jan. 15, at 2 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Reverend Joe Dodd officiating.  Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with military honors.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 4-8 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
