Chattanooga Police said Lamarcus Quintez Smith admitted killing 24-year-old Dmarcus Collins, saying a cousin of Collins had shot at him in the past "so he was going to make him feel it."

Smith, 22, of 3211 Conner St., is charged with criminal homicide, especially aggravated robbery, and possession of a weapon during commission of a dangerous felony.

The victim was shot and killed on South Kelly Street on July 30.

Chattanooga Police responded at 3:57 a.m. to a person shot in the 1600 block of South Kelly Street.
Upon arrival police located the victim at the rear of the residence unresponsive. He had a gunshot wound. He was transported by Hamilton County EMS to a local hospital, where he died.

Police were advised that Smith was the suspect in the homicide. It was found that Smith had been arrested in Cobb County, Ga., on Tuesday.

A Taurus 9mm PT111G2 handgun had been recovered during the Georgia arrest.

A Chattanooga detective said Smith admitted that was his gun and that it was the one used in the Collins slaying.

The detective said during the interview that Smith "stated that he did shoot the victim, Dmarcus Collins. Mr. Smith stood up during the interview and placed his hands together as if he was being handcuffed. He stated, 'Take me to jail. I did it. I killed him.'

"Mr. Smith also stated that he robbed Mr. Collins because he needed the money."
