It was Sophomore night for CSCC Basketball, and the Cougars got the night started with a 80-76 win over Southwest TN.
Leading the Cougars in their regular season finale was Cam Copeland, scoring 22 points while also snagging 5 steals. Victor Curry totaled 18 points and had a whopping 18 rebounds. Tevin Olison also had a solid game, dropping 16 points with 3 rebounds and 3 assists.
The Cougars shot 47.4% from the field and 58.5% from the free throw line.
After the win, Cleveland State honored their graduating Sophomore's prior to the women's game.
Sophomores, Joes Martinez, Victor Curry, Jordan Brown, Tevin Olison and Cam Copeland were all honored with a special CSCC Basketball plaque, featuring an action shot of themselves and a team photo.
This victory completes the Cougars regular season with a record of 14-11 (10-8). The win over Southwest TN snapped their 9 game winning streak and kept them from securing the top seed in the TCCAA tournament. The Cougars will participate in the Conference Tournament, starting on March 2nd at Chattanooga State Community College.
Lady Cougars Drop Final Home Game
Cleveland State's Women's Basketball team lost their final home game of the season, 82-61.
Leading the Lady Cougars was Abby Hubert who scored an outstanding 30 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Julia Gaither had 12 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals while Ebony Kelley tallied 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals.
While the Lady Cougars only shot 35% from the field they did shoot a nice 79.3% from the free throw line. Unfortunately, this wasn't enough to overcome Southwest TN.
This was the Lady Cougars final home game of the season and their record sits at 15-10 (10-8). This completes newly hired head coach, Evelyn Thompson's first season with the Lady Cougars where her team averaged 65.1 points, 35.5 rebounds, and 12.5 assists per game.
Prior to the game against Southwest TN, Cleveland State honored their women's basketball sophomores with a plaque of recognition. Those honored were, Julia Gaither, Abby Hubert, Keya Jenkins and Kyla Braden.
