A Chattanooga man has been arrested after stabbing a dog that kept following him around.

Cameron Jeffries, 20, of Glass Street, was charged with aggravated animal cruelty.

Witnesses said the friendly German Shepherd had been hanging around the Glass Street area. It began to follow Jeffries, who stopped at a residence to bum a cigarette.

The witnesses said, as he left, Jeffries said he would stab the dog if it kept following him.

He was then seen chasing the dog, which ran back onto their porch while bleeding from two stab wounds.

The McKamey Animal Center was called, but the dog died before it could be taken in for treatment.

Jeffries was taken to jail and given a $10,000 bond.

The owner of the dog has not been located.
