Police Blotter: Man Punched In Face, But Has No Idea Why; Mall Store Manager Says Policy Is To Wait Next Day To Call Police About Shoplifting

A man said he was punched in the face by a black male while standing at 953 Boynton Dr. He said he has no idea why it happened or who the man was. The assailant took off in a gold car. A woman  said she was standing right beside the victim when he was hit but did not know the assailant either. A nephew said he only met the assailant once, but did not know his name or any information. The victim said he did not want to press charges, and that he was fine and needed no medical attention.

A resident of Hixson Pike said around 4 a.m. he heard a cutting/grinding noise outside of his apartment. He said when leaving for work, he discovered that the catalytic converter had been cut from the exhaust system of his 993 Toyota 4Runner.

The owner of R&A Property Management said someone broke out two windows of his Mahindra tractor while at the Alton Park landfill at 3501 Central Ave. He said it appears that rocks were thrown at the vehicle breaking out two of the windows. He said it will cost $2,5000 to have the windows replaced.

Police said an unknown black male wearing a round brimmed hat stole Courtney Baier's Schwinn Bicycle (value $200). It was chained to her front porch. The thief was last seen riding east on Oak Street by a neighbor.

Edward Warwick said he got into a road rage incident with another man due to traffic issues. The other man then got out of his car at 3536 Brainerd Road and hit Mr. Warwick's passenger side window with his hand. There was no damage on the vehicle.

Police checked out vandalism at a law office at 320 N Holtzclaw Ave. The victim said that while the repair man was there, he discovered what looked like a bullet hole at the top of one of the pillars.

At Fall Creek Road, a woman said her vehicle had been stolen. She left her vehicle unlocked with the keys in it and the title in the glove box. She stated when she woke up and looked outside her vehicle was gone. The vehicle is a 2006 dark blue Monte Carlo with dark tinted windows.

An officer took a shoplifting report from a shop owner at Hamilton Place. She said the prior day around a.m. two men wearing shirts wrapped around their faces came into store and emptied several shelves of men's cologne. The officer reported, "I asked Ms. Owenby why they did not contact us when this occurred so we have been able to find the suspects nearby. Ms. Owenby stated their stores Loss Prevention department will not allow stores to call and report shoplifting until the following day. I explained to Ms. Owenby that it makes it difficult for us to capture the suspects when Police are not notified at the time the crime took place. Ms. Owenby stated that once again there are not allowed to, per store rules. There is no verifiable suspect information at this time. I encouraged her to speak to management about their policy, so that Police can be more effective in resolving the matter."

In Brainerd, a woman told police she accidentally dropped her wallet after going through the car wash at 5972 Brainerd Road. An unrelated citizen recovered her wallet after she left and turned it into the car wash, then it was placed in the back room. Moments later a black female entered the store and claimed she lost a pink wallet. The employees did not check the ID in the wallet and gave it to the suspect. After a few more moments the victim came back after realizing she had lost her wallet. She described it to the employees and they realized the suspect must have seen the wallet being returned and pretended it was hers. The victim stated that her driver's license, Social Security card, and a necklace were the only contents of the wallet.

A store manager at 5591 Highway 153 said she saw a black female come through the front door of her store and grab a bunch of dresses before running to her car. The manager said this is not the first time this female has stolen items form their store and gotten away.
