Covenant Tabbed 2nd In West In USA South Preseason Poll

  • Wednesday, August 15, 2018
The Covenant men's soccer team was picked to finish in a tie for second in the USA South West Division, as the conference released its annual preseason coaches' poll on Wednesday afternoon.

Each divisional preseason poll only includes votes from coaches within that particular division-only.
Head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.

Covenant, under second year head coach Scott Bosgraf, finished 9-12-1 in 2017 and advanced to the semifinals of the USA South Tournament. The Scots picked up 26 total points in the poll, which tied them with Brevard for second place. Reigning division champion Maryville boasted six of the seven first place votes and 36 points to be the preseason favorite once again.

Piedmont (25 points), LaGrange (15 points), Huntingdon (13 points), and Berea (six points) round out the rest of the division rankings.

In the East, defending USA South champion N.C. Wesleyan holds the top spot after garnering four first place votes and 24 total points. Greensboro was picked second and had the two other first place tallies.

The top four teams from each division will qualify for the USA South Tournament, which begins on Oct. 27 as seeds 1-2 in each division host. Semifinals and championship round will be hosted by the highest remaining seed on Nov. 2-3.

Covenant opens the season at home on Aug. 31 against Tennessee Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
