Dalewood Middle School Partners With On Point To Become A Hamilton County Community School

  • Thursday, October 17, 2019

On Point announces its partnership with Dalewood Middle School as a Community School.

“Having served Dalewood for more than 20 years with On Point services, we are honored to partner with the dedicated administrators, staff, faculty, parents, partners and students to cultivate even greater resources for these incredible students. We are very thankful for the investment of The Tucker Foundation and our partners in this Community School. Principal Hayes and the Dalewood community are propelling students toward excellent character and high achievement,” said On Point’s President Amy Pearson.

The mission of a Community School is to "strategically unite the neighborhood, community partners, families and school staff to provide students with the holistic means of support and intervention needed to thrive in academics and life."

"After helping pilot Dalewood’s extended day program last year, On Point has appointed a full-time community school coordinator to work in partnership with Principal Hayes, staff, school counselor, family partnership specialist, and parents to help develop wrap-around supports and services for Dalewood students. The leadership team has been working diligently toward developing Student Success Plans, for each student, in alignment with Hamilton County Schools’ strategic plan," officials said.

Principal Arielle Hayes commented on the vision for Dalewood’s Community School and this partnership, “Dalewood becoming a Community School is a dream. As we grow in partnership with community stakeholders and maintain alignment of our vision, Dalewood will be holding quarterly community meetings and welcomes those who would like to join us in this great effort of unit.”

Hamilton County’s Coordinator for Community Schools John Cunningham states: “Creating a Community School is about creating deep, intentional relationships with key partners who already work in the community meeting the needs of families. On Point has been a vital ally to Hamilton County Schools in spreading the Community School model to more locations, and their willingness to partner so deeply with Dalewood Middle School will benefit the immediate school family, as well as children and families in the broader Brainerd community.”

In celebration of our Community School, Dalewood and On Point will host a Trunk or Treat, on Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 4-6 p.m. at the school.  "Dalewood Middle School welcomes all families in the community to celebrate with us as we enjoy food, fun, candy, and community," officials said.

The following items are needed: individually wrapped candy; individual bags of chips; hot dog condiments; hot dog trays; vehicles to be decorated/filled with candy; face paint/supplies; cups; plates; and napkins.  To assist by providing donations for the event,  items will be received at Dalewood Middle School’s Main Office anytime between Oct. 14-28.
