The Cleveland State volleyball team finished as the runner-up in Region VII Championship as they fell 3-0 to Walters State on Saturday.
Cleveland State fell 25-18 in the first set. Aly Grace Lemons was the biggest offensive
contributor for the Lady Cougars, contributing five kills, including two that were a result of huge
diving saves by both Sydney Allen and Lydia Martin. Abbie Stinnett recorded three straight
points for the Cougars at the 15-8, 16-9, and 17-11 points of the set.
The Lady Cougars fell 25-15 in set two. Stephanie Burke recorded a kill and a service ace, while
Lemons also contributed a couple of kills.
The third set, Cleveland State suffered a 25-11 defeat which ended the match. The Lady
Cougars started out strong in the set, with Katlyn Knight recording a kill to make it 1-0 and
Lemons scoring a point to make it 6-3 Lady Cougars, but a huge Lady Senators rally afterwards
proved too much to handle. Burke also had three kills in the set.
