What Services Should The Government Supply?

  • Sunday, May 4, 2025

What services should national, state and local governments supply? The time has come for citizens to take a hard look at government budgets, what is being spent, and for what. What services do we need, and how many staff do government agencies need? How much should a property owner have to pay in taxes?

You can always make a case that we need everything government agencies provide, but we do not.  Government officials are interested in their projects and not in the interests of the basic needs of their citizens. It doesn’t matter if it is a city, county, state or federal government; the pet projects the government officials want outweigh the basic needs of the citizens they represent.

Taxes continue to increase, property taxes, sales taxes, registration fees, etc. And insurance continues to increase. Some homeowners today with combination property taxes and homeowners’ insurance fees are greater than their monthly mortgage rates. Add in sales taxes, other fees you must pay to the government, and health insurance, life insurance, and other insurance you need or are required to have, and you wonder how much more can I pay?

There must be an end, and the end is not increased taxes for non-essential services. And the end is not for insurance companies to increase their profits for stockholders and provide fewer services.  These tax increases and insurance cost increases must end, or we will all be walking with a barrel over us and no clothes or a place to live.
