Eric Lewis Pitts, 35, was killed in a single-vehicle, high-speed wreck on Shallowford Road early Wednesday morning.
At 2:21 a.m., the Chattanooga Police Department's Traffic Unit was notified of a fatal crash at Shallowford Road and Shallowford Village Drive.
Police said an Infiniti was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed on Shallowford Road approaching Shallowford Village Drive. It topped the hill in front of the Red Roof Inn at a high rate of speed and began to lose control.
The vehicle slid to the left, crossed over into oncoming traffic lanes, and struck the curb in front of Wendy's.
It then slid sideways into a traffic light pole and separated into two pieces.
The Mr. Pitts was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene by Hamilton County EMS.
