Funeral Service For Officer Galinger Will Be In His Hometown Of Cincinnati On Friday

Funeral services for a Chattanooga Police officer who was killed by a hit and run driver on Saturday night will be Friday in his hometown of Cincinnati.

Nicholas Scott Galinger, 38, was a native of Cincinnati and had only lived in Chattanooga since last August. 

He moved to Chattanooga "to pursue his dream to become a police officer."  He had served with the Chattanooga Police Department since January.

Officer Galinger was a graduate of Clermont Northwestern High School and Devry University.  He was of the Lutheran faith.  He was an avid computer animation fan.

He is survived by his son, Ethan Galinger and daughter, Hailey Galinger both of Cincinnati;  parents, Barry and Gretchen Galinger of Ellabell, Ga.;  sisters, Tonya (Timothy) Hasty and Tiffany Galinger, both of Cincinnati;  brothers, Barry Douglas (Stephanie) Galinger II, Ft. Irwin, Calif. and Brent (Jennifer) Galinger, Ellabell, Ga.;  grandmothers, Eileen Galinger, Ft. Thomas, Ky. and Patricia Ann Nolan, Cincinnati.

Funeral services will be held Friday at Mt. Washington Presbyterian Church, 6474 Beechmont Ave., Cincinnati. Burial will follow the services at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Cincinnati.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 12 -5 pm at P.T. Whites Funeral Home, 2050 Beechmont Ave., Cincinnati.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Chattanooga Police Department or to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements for Officer Galinger are being handled locally by the Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Chapel, 7454 E. Brainerd Road.

The group North Hamilton County United For Responsible Growth is raising funds to pay all charter bus expenses to Cincinnati for family for the burial of the officer. Donations should be sent to the group in care of treasurer Odell Frye, 7618 Twisting Creek Lane, Ooltewah, Tn., 37363.
