County Trustee Bill Hullander Turns Over $8.8 Million In Excess Tax Fees

  • Wednesday, April 24, 2019

Property tax season for Hamilton County is over and Bill Hullander said the property tax collections have been good.

He said, "With the staff’s hard work, we have collected 95% of the taxes that have been billed for the 2018-19 FY.  We will probably end the fiscal year with collections in the 97 to 98% range.  The 2018 total levy is a little over $300 million so we should collect around $294 million by the end of June."

The Tennessee statues requires county trustees to charge a commission for collection and safekeeping of county monies.

The commissions are the funds that fee offices use to operate their offices.  All fees in excess of fee offices' annual operating expense are turned over to County General to become a part of the general budget.  The trustee’s office has turned over 8.8 million dollars to the county general budget for this fiscal year.  Trustee Hullander said he has turned over to the county general budget $67 million since he took office in September of 2010.
