Trustee Bill Hullander said his office will soon be sending out the assessments to property owners within the newly approved downtown Business Improvement District.
He said they will be part of the upcoming property tax bills issued by his office.
The trustee said the printer "is getting the ink ready" on the bills.
There will be a total of $1 million in special assessments to the BID property owners to pay for improvements within the district over and above that provided by the city.
Trustee Hullander said his office will be paid a two percent commission - $20,000.
Asked if a BID property owner pays the property tax but not the BID assessment would his office go after them. He said no, but another entity, such as the BID Board, may.
He also said that his office is taking over the handling of delinquent back tax cases where both the city and county have an interest in the property.
He said in the past the person behind on their taxes has gotten sued by both the city and county, costing the individual about $800 in court costs. He said with the county handling everything it would cut the property owner's court costs to around $400.
The trustee said his office will receive from $80,000 to $100,000 per year for both the new BID and back tax services.
