Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union Hosts 24th Annual Golf Tournament To Benefit Students Taking A Right Stand (STARS)

Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union announces that its golf tournament raised $40,000 to benefit Students Taking a Right Stand (STARS), which is a nonprofit that addresses issues to support a healthy school climate to enhance academic success in Hamilton County Schools.

“We are honored to help STARS provide anti-bullying and character-building programming in Hamilton County Schools,” said Tammy Zumbrun, TVFCU community outreach/marketing manager. “We greatly appreciate our dedicated sponsors, players and volunteers for helping us reach this total.”

TVFCU hosted the 24th Annual TVFCU Golf Tournament benefitting STARS in early October at the beautiful Black Creek Golf Course.

“Earlier this year, we weren’t sure if we would be able to host the tournament due to the pandemic,” said Nina Coppinger, TVFCU community liaison and golf tournament organizer. “However, we worked with Black Creek Golf Course to take the necessary precautions. In the past, we would host a morning and afternoon round. This year we scheduled tee times for each team to prevent large gatherings.”

Officials said, "Through TVFCU’s golf tournament, STARS is able to continue to invest in Hamilton County Schools. STARS has been consistent in adapting to the needs of the community and supporting the process of aiding students in the decision making process to improve the overall school climate."

“Student training is crucial to improving school climate and the funding from TVFCU has been a tremendous support to this service,” said Karen Glenn, STARS director. “Despite the school closures last March, overall student training last year increased by 17.5 percent, which is directly linked to the support of the TVFCU.”

If interested in supporting STARS, a tax-deductible donation may be sent to STARS P.O. Box 2589, Chattanooga, Tn. 37409, or by contacting glenn_k@HCDE.ORG.
