AIM Center Officials Say Project To Place Supportive Housing On E. Main Street In Early Stages

  • Tuesday, February 11, 2020

AIM Center officials said they are only in the early stages of providing 60 units of supportive house at a city-owned site at 1815 E. Main St.

The center is asking that the city donate the property that is now used as a city warehouse and for space for the Forgotten Child Fund and the Chattanooga Furniture Bank. Leaders of those two non-profit groups said they only recently learned of the project.

It would be a cooperative project with a national firm that specializes in supportive housing projects and would do the construction of the apartments.

Officials said 15 of the 60 units would be for AIM Center clients and the remainder would be low-income housing working through the Chattanooga Housing Agency.

Some neighbors questioned the project, saying that section is being rapidly developed and expressing concerns that it could cause a drop in property values.
