After days of dreary pounding rain over Chattanooga, the precipitation turned to a beautiful snowfall on Saturday morning.
Chattanoogans awoke to a blanket of white that covered downtown and accumulated several inches on nearby hills and mountains.
Due to the weather and road conditions all county school events were cancelled for Saturday.
A planned grand opening of the renovated East Lake Park was delayed until another day.
The Hunter Museum and the McKamey Animal Center were closed.
The lanes on Highway 153 over Chickamauga Dam were closed after an accident in the northbound lanes around 8:30 a.m. They reopened shortly after 11 a.m.
But by early afternoon the glaring sun made its return after long days hidden away, and the snow was quickly gone.
