National Guard Veteran Owned A State Farm Agency For Nearly 40 Years

James Thomas “Tom” Kolb  was born on September 12, 1949, and died on July 16, 2020. He was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend.

He was an Oklahoma native and attended the University of Oklahoma (Boomer Sooner) where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He spent six years in the Oklahoma National Guard. Tom opened a State Farm agency in Hixson almost 40 years ago and became an active member in his community. He was an avid golfer, tennis player, fisherman, and enjoyed traveling. He was a long-time member of Valleybrook Golf and Country Club. He was a devout Christian and attended Spring City United Methodist Church. Tom’s lasting legacy will be his devotion to his faith, his family, and his friends. 

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Vicki; his son, Jon (Patty) and his grandchildren, Sarah Kate and Jack Thomas of Muskogee, Ok.; his daughter, Jennifer (Norm Steuer) of Signal Mountain; his mother Irmalee of Vinita, Ok.; his brother Bill (Kathy) of Pryor, Ok.; his sister, Liz Williams (Jeff) of Vinita, Ok.; and his brother, David (Dee Ann) of Muskogee, Ok. 

There will be a private graveside service officiated by Dr. Dan Sansbury on Tuesday, July 28.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Tennessee Humane Animal League’s Pet Placement Center (www.petplacementcenter.com or 423-877-0738) or the American Lung Association (www.lung.org).
