The Collegedale Tomorrow Foundation is partnering with the city of Collegedale on a Christmas gift, winter clothing, non-perishable food, and funds drive to give aid and assistance to the citizens of Mayfield, Ky.
Organizers have been working with Commissioner Ethan White, his fellow Commissioners, Dr. Phil Garver, Deborah Baker, Vice Mayor Tim Johnson, and Mayor Katie Lamb on ensuring Collegedale’s City Hall can be used starting Wednesday from 12-5 p.m. and running until next Wednesday night as a drop off center.
There is a need for gifts for kids, preferably wrapped with a tag that says boy or girl, and the appropriate age for the child receiving the gift. Non-perishable food stuffs, and toiletries, warm clothes, and if you don’t have time for that, a check written to the Collegedale Tomorrow Foundation, with Mayfield written in the memo area - all donations will be tax deductible and 100 percent will be passed along to city of Mayfield.
Collegedale knows the trauma and horror of tornadoes, as just last year East Brainerd, Collegedale and Ooltewah suffered a devastating storm, The Commons sustained hundreds of thousands in damage, we know these folks need help.
David Barto with the Collegedale Tomorrow Foundation said, "Several years ago I went out weekend after weekend when the Easter tornado hit Apison and Ringgold cutting down trees, and helping clean up storm debris. We got lucky with this storm system that our community didn’t get hit, so let’s do something, let’s come together this Christmas and help the citizens of Mayfield.
"I have visited this part of Kentucky several times, my in-laws were not directly affected by the tornado but they have friends and neighbors who have lost everything. Our area of Tennessee is blessed, we have so much, let’s give something back."
City Hall is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and organizers will be set up this weekend out front to accept donations or call Mr. Barto at 664-3022.
