Roddey Coe: Why I Am A District 9 School Board Candidate

  • Friday, July 9, 2021

As a former vice president of the Chattanooga Autism Center, I have perspectives, relevant abilities, and civic experiences that I feel could immediately compliment the exceptional talents and skills of the current School Board.

The characteristics I see as essential to my being a good leader and member are active-listening, exceptional ethics, empathy, awareness, understanding, foresight, persuasion, stewardship, and a commitment to the community and the well-being of others.

My extensive civic experience includes:

·         Gubernatorial board appointee, Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities (CDD)

·         Gubernatorial board appointee, Tennessee Council on Autism Spectrum Disorders (CASD)

·         Former Vice President of the Chattanooga Autism Center

·         Legislative activist to support students with disabilities in the Tennessee education system.

Working with Rep. Mike Carter and Senator Todd Gardenhire, I introduced the “Take Me Home” legislation, protecting non-communicative individuals when involved with law enforcement.

·         2020 graduate, Leadership Hamilton County Schools

·         Currently working with Senator Bo Watson and Rep. Clay Doggett on legislation for accessible adult changing tables in public spaces.

·         Recognized by Tennessee General Assembly for advocacy work in 2018.

My hope in offering my services to the School Board is that my distinctive mix of skills, leadership capabilities, and broad public service experience will be of immediate benefit and high relevance to being an effective addition to the current board.

With my depth of directly relevant experience, a strong work ethic, and my acquired leadership and political skills I am confident that I am positioned to meet or exceed expectations for a Hamilton County School Board Member. I would greatly welcome the opportunity to serve the board and the community at large.

I am a Post 9-11 U.S. Army veteran, having served with the 101st Airborne Division, and most importantly, a husband and a father with a child in the Hamilton County school system.
