The I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater was the only stock car racing action around Saturday night as wet weather cancelled most events scheduled. Track and Southern All-Stars Super Late Models series officials pushed forward with the annual Dirt Slinger Classic offering $5,000 to the night's winner of the 50 lapper.
Payton Freeman (#F1) of Commerce, Ga., took the lead on lap 32 and held off Cory Hedgecock of Loudon and a charging Sam Seawright of Fort Payne, Al. for the win. Local Hall of Famer Skip Arp of Georgetown was 5th, Heath Hindman of Signal Mountain was 13th and Dale McDowell of Chickamauga was 19th overall.
Through "Rain, Sleet or Snow" the All Star Monster Trucks put on a show at Boyd's Speedway in East Ridge/Ringgold Saturday night. Fort Payne Motor Speedway's scheduled United Championship Racing Alliance event was rained out Saturday night and rescheduled by track and series officials for Saturday, Sept. 11. Mountain View Raceway in Dayton/Spring City, just north of Chattanooga, was also rained out Saturday night.
