Linda Thomas Austin

Linda Thomas Austin, 81, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, entered her eternal home in heaven with her Savior Jesus Christ on September 4, 2021.

She was born in Rocky Mount, N.C. on July 10, 1940, to the late Wilbur and Scottie Thomas. Linda has been a resident of Chattanooga for the past 58 years, moving here with her husband from North Carolina. Linda was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a member of First Presbyterian Church Chattanooga.

Her faith in her Lord Jesus Christ informed all aspects of her life. She loved reading, studying, and teaching the Bible. Linda loved her family and enjoyed taking trips overseas with them. She always remembered her family and those close to her in prayer. She enjoyed cooking, walking, and bicycling. She was passionate about world missions and praying for those on the mission field. Her influence for Christ, especially among younger women, was a hallmark of her life. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband of 59 years, Lawrence B. (Pete) Austin III; children: Lawrence B. (Pete) Austin IV (Beth) and Thomas A. (Tommy) Austin (Jeanne) of Chattanooga, and Scottie Austin Cain (Dick) of Gadsden, Alabama; siblings: Barbara Beason (Ed) and Phil Thomas (Bibba) of North Carolina. As their beloved Gran, Linda also leaves behind ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga on Saturday, Sept. 11, at noon. Her family will receive friends in the church Connector from 11 a.m. until the 12 p.m. service. The livestream link to the service is https://vimeo.com/599651927.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to First Presbyterian Church World Missions, 554 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37402; Bible in the Schools, P. O. Box 4228, Chattanooga, TN 37405; or a charity of your choice.

You are invited to share a personal memory of Linda or your condolences with her family at her online memorial located at www.companionfunerals.com. Companion Funeral & Cremation Service and the Cody family are honored to assist the Austin family with these arrangements.
