Dalton Sees Rise In October Unemployment Rate

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Dalton recorded an unemployment rate of 4.3 percent in October, up one and three-tenths of a percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.3 percent.

"Job seekers have continued to experience a favorable hiring environment across multiple job sectors, despite a slight uptick in unemployment rates," said Commissioner Butler. “As we prepare for peak holiday hiring, we encourage job seekers to take advantage of the many employment opportunities, both full-time and part-time, available across Georgia.”

The labor force increased in Dalton by 25 and ended the month with 58,248. That number decreased by 614 when compared to October of 2021.

Dalton finished the month with 55,750 employed residents. That number decreased by 700 over the month and went down by 1,191 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Dalton ended October with 66,600 jobs. That number went down 300 from September to October and increased by 300 when compared to this time last year.

The number of unemployment claims went up by 78 percent in Dalton in October. When compared to last October, claims were up by about 566 percent.

Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 1,016 active job postings in Dalton for October.
