Kentucky State football will meet Fort Valley State on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 3 p.m. in Chattanooga for the Scenic City Classic.
The Classic will take place at Finley Stadium.
There will be numerous events leading up to the game:
Friday, September 9
- The Gathering, Chattanooga Convention Center, 7 p.m
Saturday September 10
- Divine Nine/HBCU - Bounce Rock Skate Roll – 5k Run/Walk, Bessie Smith Cultural Center and Chattanooga African American Museum, 6 p.m. – 10 a.m.
- The Ultimate Day Party, Chattanooga Convention Center, 12p.m. – 4 p.m.
- The Laua Festival, Chattanooga Convention Center, 8 p.m.– 12 a.m.
Sunday, September 11
- Scenic City Classic, W. Max Finley Stadium, 3 p.m.
- Battle of the Bands, W. Max Finley Stadium, immediately after the classic
Tickets for the Scenic City Classic football game will start at $25 for general admission and $35 for reserved seating.
The game will have special meaning for Dr. Gerald W. Patton, chair of the Kentucky State University Board of Regents.
The Chattanooga native is a graduate of Riverside High School, Class of 1965, and an alumnus of Kentucky State University, Class of 1969.
He said, "I am honored to serve as chair of the Kentucky State University Board of Regents, the university’s governing board. Other notable KSU alumni of Chattanooga include Rayburn Traughber, retired city government official, Glenn Chambers, retired teacher and real estate agent, and Loneta Jarnigan Lee, Miss Kentucky State, 1970 who now resides in Palm Springs, CA.
"According to the mission statement of the Black College Football Classic Series, the (BCFCS) provides an annual opportunity for HBCUs to connect with the broader business, civic, and municipal communities. The series promotes higher education opportunities and visibility for HBCUs.
