Deloris Evadine Simmons White, was born in Chickamauga, Georgia, as the only child of the late Silmon Ray and Venice Simmons. She was the granddaughter of the late Honorable Seymore Simmons and Beulah Pirkle Simmons, who were called early pioneers of Walker County, Georgia.

Deloris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George A. White and her loving son, Michael W. White. A part of her died in 1985. She is survived by one loving son, Malcolm Ray White of Rossville, Ga. She attended Dickerson and Central High School, class of 1953.

Deloris studied voice with the late Ellin Turrentine and the late J. Oscar Miller at the Cadek Conservatory of Music. She also studied art under the late Fannie Mennon.

She served as pianist and vocal soloist for many years at local churches. Deloris attended Red Bank Presbyterian Church. She was an animal lover, especially her wonderful “Airedales”. Her mother taught her the love of poetry and she herself wrote some poetry.

She was especially proud of her southern heritage, her great-grandfather H. S. Simmons, who enlisted in the Confederate army, serving throughout that fateful struggle, seeing service in the Virginia campaign, where he lost a leg. His brother, James, also served in the same conflict, (Walker County history 1st edition). Above all Deloris loved God. “I want to see my saviour first of all for he shall be my light when shadows fall. Others may be dear to me but the dearest one is He. I want to see my saviour most of all”.

A graveside service will be held for Deloris at the Hamilton County Memorial Park Cemetery in Soddy Daisy, Tn. on Friday, Jan. 27, at noon with Pastor Jason Issacson officiating.

There will be no public visitation at the funeral home.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hamilton Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 4506 Hixson Pike, Hixson, Tn. 423 531-3975.
