Lakesite Appoints 5 Members To New Parks And Recreation Advisory Board

  • Thursday, October 19, 2023

Lakesite Mayor David Howell officially appointed five community members to the city’s revised Parks and Recreation Advisory Board during the Tuesday Commission meeting.  The newly appointed members were selected from applications submitted earlier this month.

The board existed in an unofficial capacity for many years but has not been active for more than a decade. Lakesite officials recognize the benefits local parks and recreation activities provide to the community and wanted to revive the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board to assist with this effort.  This past summer, city officials restored the Advisory Board via ordinance.

Applications to serve on the board were solicited and on Tuesday, Mayor Howell officially appointed Ryan Beckett, Caroline Lee, David Mullin, David Pickenpaugh, and Dawn Thornton to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.

The goal of the Board is to make recommendations to the Lakesite Board of Commissioners relating to parks and recreation facilities and programming.  The Board will work with city staff to maintain existing park facilities and to find ways to create new facilities per the Parks and Recreation survey which the city conducted earlier in 2023.

“I am grateful that five members of our community stepped up to participate on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board,” said Mayor Howell. “It is my hope that the Board will become instrumental in organizing community events and shaping the future of parks and programming in our community.”

Also serving on the Board as ex officio members are Parks and Recreation Commissioner Michelle Wilson, City Manager Kirsten Ert Acuff, Public Works Director David Tate and Building Official Dan Maxwell.
