Winter Vistas: “Uncle Billy” Vs. “Old Pat” At Tunnel Hill Program Is Jan. 6

  • Friday, December 15, 2023
Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will present a special ranger-led hike on Saturday, Jan. 6 exploring the events that occurred on the northern end of Missionary Ridge at Tunnel Hill. This program will begin at the parking area for the Sherman Reservation, off Lightfoot Mill Road. The hike will last approximately 90 minutes and will be under one mile in length.

The fighting at Tunnel Hill on Nov. 25, 1863, pitted the veterans of Union General William T. Sherman’s forces against Confederate General Patrick Cleburne’s stalwart division of the Army of Tennessee in the larger struggle for Missionary Ridge.  Join us as we take advantage of the lack of foliage to see the ground better and gain insights into these events of 1863.
