Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga’s 2025 Women Build Brunch raised over $146,000 in April, breaking their fundraising goal and setting an event record.
Officials said, "This year’s fundraiser marked a major milestone by supporting the construction of Habitat Chattanooga’s 30th Women Build home. Over the years, Habitat Chattanooga’s women-led volunteers have completely built or repaired 29 homes, thanks to the generosity of event sponsors.
"This year’s Women Build Brunch was the 10th fundraiser of its kind and honored Laquanta, a mother and nurse who will eventually live in the new home with her three sons.
While fulfilling the rigorous requirements to become a Future Homeowner through the Habitat Homeownership Program, Laquanta earned her nursing licensure and became a nurse at a local hospital in November of last year.
Just two weeks after the fundraising brunch, Laquanta and her family broke ground at the site of their future home on May 9, which is the fastest turnaround time between a Chattanooga Habitat Women Build fundraiser and its groundbreaking. When Laquanta’s family moves, she will have a 0 percent interest 30-year mortgage allowing equity and financial security to be built."
“Laquanta's dedication shines through in everything she does, whether it’s in the sweat equity she built as a Future Homeowner, or in her service to the community as a nurse. This type of dedication embodies what it means to be a Habitat Homeowner, and it’s been a privilege to work with Laquanta and our wonderful donors and sponsors to help pave this path with her,” said Donna Williams, this year’s event chair.
“The major success of this year’s event is a humbling testament to the generosity of our community and belief in our work,” Habitat Chattanooga CEO and President Jens Christensen said. "We're grateful to each and every sponsor and donor who helped make this possible.”
