Lifelong Chattanooga Resident Who Loved His Family

Mr. Leon Works, 68, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023. Leon was born in Chattanooga on Aug. 21, 1954 to the late Mr. Ray Works and Mrs. Mary Barton Works.

Leon was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga. He graduated Kirkman High School class of ‘72, where he was a star pitcher on the baseball team. Leon worked for many years at Wheland Foundry, before his retirement. He loved the beach, spending many vacations in Panama City, Fl., as well as Disney World. Leon also loved deep sea fishing, the Vols and many other sports. Most of all, Leon loved his family. He will surely be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Leon is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Blake Mallett; sister, Joann Thomas; and brother, William Ray Works.

He is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Works; son, James Leon Works, Jr.; daughters, Christie (Jeff) Roberts and Angela Works; step-son, Chad (Ashley) Reel; several grandchildren; sister, Pat (Carl) Brown; and brothers, Ray (Brenda) Works and Earl (Vicki) Works. Many nieces and nephews also survive to cherish Leon’s memory.

A funeral service for Leon will be conducted in the chapel of Lane Funeral Home South Crest Chapel on March 27 at 2 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Lakewood Memory Gardens South.

The family will receive friends on Monday, March 27 from noon until the service hour.
