Walker Valley pitcher Brylie Davis faced just nine batters in a Wednesday no-hitter at Larry Haney Field as the Lady Mustangs made quick work of The Howard School with a 15-0 three inning District 5-4A win.

Davis struck out eight Lady Tigers and fielded the only Howard hit for an out in the picking up the victory out of the circle. Davis fanned the side in the first and third innings.

“Riley pitched a great game,” said Lady Mustangs head coach Lauren Limburg. “She recorded every out, even the ball that was hit she fielded. I'm really proud of her and her hard work. I thought it was a great team effort.”

The Lady Mustangs (8-3, 3-0 District 5-4A) rang up a 5-0 lead in the first inning off singles by Alyssa Davenport ad Kiarra Nicholes. The Feisty Fillies were aided by three walks and a pair of Howard errors.

The runs kept coming in the second with an Amy Benson double, Nicholes triple and singles from Addison Woodall, Addyson Trew and Madison Thomas as the Lady Mustangs added seven runs to lead 12-0.

Davenport led off the third with a single and Trew closed out the inning with a single as Walker Valley picked up the final three runs of the game to close out the day.

“They played really well. They had good at bats. They hit good pitches, they hit strikes. We talked about improving our at bats making sure we were hitting our pitch and not settling on pitches that weren't our pitch or balls,” said Limburg. “I was really proud of their at bats and I was really proud of their aggression on the bases.”

The Lady Mustangs continue district play Thursday on the road against Cleveland. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.

“Cleveland is always a great opponent,” Limburg stated. “Every district game is important and we've got to make sure we have our “A” game when we go over there. But, we are excited to compete.”
