On Saturday, a local student at Walker Valley, Bennett George, qualified for the 2023 Olympics for kayaking and is headed to Europe this summer for the big race.
Bennett competed this past weekend in the USA Team Trials in Oklahoma City, Ok. This is where whitewater paddlers compete for the top three spots in their division to represent the USA in the World Championship race which will be held in Poland this August.
Bennet competed for a spot on the Junior (18 and under) division this year as a 16-year-old. It was a tough race with the top competitors racing within seconds of each other. Bennett placed third in the race and will represent the USA in Poland this summer.
Bennett lives in Cleveland, and attends Walker Valley High School.
