Lenora Neighbors Perry
Lenora Neighbors Perry, 89, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024.
Born in Montgomery, Al., she graduated from Sidney Lanier High School and after a series of events she went to Judson Women’s College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree and was very proud to say she was a “Judson Girl”. Lenora was a member of Brainerd Presbyterian Church where she was very active. She was one of the founding members of the “Chain Gang” at the church that crocheted lap blankets for Hospice. She was a brilliant mathematician and was an avid gardener. Lenora would want everyone to know, just because I no longer stand in front of your eyes, doesn’t mean you can’t see me; close them, I am there, just because I no longer answer when you call my name, doesn’t mean you can’t hear me speak softly; listen carefully, there is my voice. Just because I can no longer touch your hands, doesn’t mean you can’t feel me; hold on to another, my arms are there. Just because I am no longer there to show you, I love you, doesn’t mean my love is gone; place your hand on your heart feel it beat, I am there. Know that I am with God, know that God is with you; and in that we are still with each other.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Dowd Perry; and parents, Reuben Fields and Mary Ellen Carr Neighbors.
She is survived by her daughter, Melanie (Tim) Gass of Chattanooga; and three granddaughters, Rachel Gass Bewley, Katie Gass, and Perri Mansfield.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 5, with Rev. Jonathan Schwartz and Dan Gilchrist officiating at Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
