The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Signal Mountain Congregation) is planning to host it’s Live Nativity event again this year. It will be held Thursday and Friday from 6-8 p.m. at 1160 Ridgeway Ave., just across from the Signal Mountain Post Office.
“This special event has become a tradition for many in our community”, said Deseret Ward a member of the local congregation.
The Live Nativity first began in December of 2017 and remains an important event to this day, excluding 2020 and 2021 for COVID.
Jabus Braxton, a longtime resident of Signal Mountain and member of the Signal Mountain Latter-day Saint congregation said, “Participants get to take a journey through old Jerusalem and get to experience what it might have been like to be Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, wisemen and even the inn keeper.” The “journey” through Bethlehem ends with the manger scene.
“Seeing the culmination of events leading to the Savior’s birth is a special experience for all those who get to come to the event,” said Mark Mendenhall, who serves as the congregation leader.
This year’s event organizer Kristina Youngblood said, “Everyone is invited to attend and the event is free of charge.”
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holds a yearly global outreach in December called Light the World. This initiative encourages individuals and groups of all faiths and persuasions to “elevate demonstrations of Christlike love through service and kindness.” The Chattanooga TN Stake a geographic subdivision of the Church consisting of 13 congregations across the greater Chattanooga metropolitan area and of which the Signal Mountain Ward is a congregation – encourages everyone to attend The Live Nativity. Those requiring Spanish language translation or assistance, or who wish to schedule church, youth or family group reservations please email Lara Buchheit at SMLiveNativity@gmail.com.
