The Silverdale Baptist Academy Seahawks clinched a win over the St. Andrews-Sewanee Mountain Lions after an intense clash that would result in a 4-1 scoreline. Silverdale, only having played one district game prior to this, understood the expectations and the importance of this matchup. While having the advantage of being on their own turf, the game was nowhere near a walk in the park for the Seahawks.

The majority of the first half held the coaches and fans captive and wondering who would go up first. Silverdale, using their classic 433 formation, pushed to attack the whole half and go up early. Despite their best efforts, the Seahawks could not get anywhere near the goal. All the credit for this goes to the Mountain Lions’ seamless defense. They put up an impenetrable wall for most of the first half that would hold off any of Silverdale’s attempts to score.

As luck would have it, and luck is to blame, the Seahawks found their goal late in the first half. After trying to find anything and everything they could to score, the ball seemed to find its own way in the back of the net. Nate Hampton, looking to put a ball in the box to get an assist, ends up putting it in the goal instead and gave the seahawks a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

The second half proved to be a lot more productive than the first. After going up, the momentum stayed with Silverdale and eventually would lead to them scoring two more to add a brace to their lead. The first from Jasper Martin on a free kick that bent just right to find the side net and score. The second came from a a counter attack. Ethan Givens pushed forward with the ball sending it to the feet of Talan Butterworth who then crushed it into the goal with power.

The action did not stop there for Silverdale. With a turn for the worst and a set of unfortunate events, Silverdale scores an own goal. After the Mountain Lions put a cross in, Jasper Martin tried to clear it away. Unluckily it took a bad deflection and went into their goal giving St. Andrews their only goal of the match. After Silverdale responded in order to make sure their lead was secured. A long throw in straight to the head of Ethan Givens who places it into the bottom corner. The game, after plenty of drama, finally came to a wrap with a 4-1 victory for the Seahawks.

After speaking with the head coach of the Silverdale Seahawks, Wes Ford, he had this to say.

“The first half St. Andrews were defending really well and kept us out of really dangerous chances. With only one goal to happen right at the end if the first half. I was getting a little nervous but our guys really stepped up in the second half. They played together and played as a unit. What I have been telling them is that everyday we just have to continue to get better an continue to work together as a team. When we play together and as a team, we play strong and they did that in the second half.”

Make sure to follow up with the Seahawks and Mountain Lions as they continue through their season. There are plenty of district game left for both teams and games like that always come with ecstatic drama as well as plenty of goals.
