Today I attended the committal service of a sweet lady with whom I had grown up. As I stood in the cemetery, I noticed the quiet beauty of the natural world in mid-winter. The sun was shining brightly illuminating the stark beauty of the tall oak trees on the forested hills, the wind was singing through the trees and around the slopes of the hills and the grounds themselves seemed to exude a quiet peace. Birds were singing in the distance and a few squirrels ran about in their daily scrambles. Even on this sad occasion in which family and friends came to say goodbye, there was a sense of harmony in the natural world.
So, why can't we as humans and especially as Christians, not work hard at emulating the harmony that can be found all around in the natural world instead of fighting, bullying, disrespecting, and threatening each other, especially those who are "different" from us?
