Cables, Charles Allen

Loved The Outdoors, NASCAR, Music, And Dancing

  • Friday, April 18, 2025
Mr. Charles Allen Cables, 77, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday afternoon, April 15, 2025.

Born on December 22, 1948, in Dalton, Allen lived a life full of energy, passion, and deep love for his family. He was never happier than when surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—whom he proudly bragged about every chance he got. His wife, Mary Jo, was the love of his life, and together they built a family full of laughter, stories, and unforgettable memories.

Allen was a true outdoorsman who found joy in hunting, fishing, and camping—always happiest under the open sky with the ones he loved. A lifelong NASCAR fan, he cheered loudest for Dale Earnhardt, his all-time favorite driver. And when it came to music and dancing, few could match Allen’s passion—at least, according to him. He swore he could out-dance both Elvis Presley and John Travolta, and with Mary Jo as his partner, they won more than a few dance competitions to prove it.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Phyllis Lautrell Cables West; his parents, Glen and Irene Cloer; his brother, Jimmy Jackson; and his sister, Audrey Tucker.

Allen is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Jo Seritt Cables; daughter and son-in-law, Nises Quarles and Bug Reddix; sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Diane Cables, Matt and Debra Quarles, all of Dalton, GA, and Jason and Janie Cables of Chatsworth, GA; grandchildren, Natalee Brooke Cables, Blake and Haleigh Palmer, Stachia and Corey Rogers, Alley and Hunter Payton, Garrett and Jessica Quarles, Latasha and Josh Williams, Dakota and Britt Lands, Kolby and Brandy Youell, Zach Smith, Cameron and Courtney Woodard, Jacob and Tayia Hewitt, and Casey Cables; two special great-grandchildren, Brenley Williams and Liam Quarles; and many more great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family who will miss him dearly.

He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Claude and Gloria Jackson; his sister, Mildred Ling; and his cherished in-laws, Vergie and Steve Dean, Brenda and Glenn Elrod, Shirley Parker, Jerry and Lynn Serritt, and Ed and Brenda Shiver.

A celebration of Allen’s life will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, at City View Church of God (3688 Chatsworth Road, Dalton, Ga., 30721), with Reverend David Mathis and Reverend Jeff Wilson officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Hooker Family Cemetery. Pallbearers include Matt Quarles, Garrett Quarles, Dakota Lands, Clint Putnam, Tim Maxwell, Kolby Youell, Jason Cables, and Josh Williams.

The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 2 p.m. until the service hour.

Arrangements are by Ponders Melrose Chapel, 138 Melrose Drive, Dalton, Ga. 30721, 706 226-4002, www.selectedindependentfuneralhomes.org.
