Boyd-Buchanan School is proud to announce the hiring of Alex Young as the new Head Coach of the Lady Bucs Volleyball program.
A 2004 graduate of Boyd Buchanan, Young brings with her a deep legacy of excellence and a passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the court. As a four-year varsity starter during her high school career, Young made history as the first volleyball player at Boyd-Buchanan to earn All-State honors, be named to the Best of Preps, and receive a college volleyball scholarship.
Young continued her athletic career as a Division I middle blocker at Lipscomb University, where she was a four-year starter. She served as Co-Captain of the 2007 team that captured the ASUN conference championship and made the school’s first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Her leadership and competitive spirit laid the foundation for the Lipscomb collegiate program.
“We are thrilled to welcome Alex back to Boyd-Buchanan,” said Matt Pobieglo, Director of Athletics. “Her combination of elite playing experience, coaching expertise, heart for Christian mentorship, and her understanding of Division II makes her the ideal leader for our volleyball program.”
No stranger to club volleyball, Young served in an assistant coaching role in Nashville before taking the helm as Head Coach at Christ Presbyterian Academy from 2014 to 2017. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Lipscomb University and spent seven years teaching Pre-Kindergarten. Her dedication to Christian education and the spiritual development of young people remains a central focus of her work.
“Returning to Boyd-Buchanan is a dream come true,” said Coach Young. “This school helped shape who I am, and I am honored to invest in the next generation of Lady Bucs through a Christ-centered volleyball program.”
Alex and her husband Jerry, of twelve years, are the proud parents of three boys: Nolan (10), Theo (7), and Landry (5).
