Covenant Baseball Wins 5-4 Over Berry In Extra Innings

  • Tuesday, April 8, 2025

The Covenant baseball team and Berry met for the first of two meetings scheduled for this season and it did not disappoint. Nine innings was not enough to decide a winner as Covenant etched out a 5-4 win on the road.

Final (11 innings): Covenant 5, Berry 4 The Vikings went ahead in the second inning, scoring a run with an RBI single up the middle. Daniel Bell delivered an RBI sacrifice fly in the third inning that scored Roby McCalrnon to tie the game up. In the fifth inning McClarnon, Josh McCaskill, and Elliott Eastin delivered RBI singles to put the Scots ahead 4-1.

Berry started to claw its way back with a run in the seventh inning via an RBI fielder's choice.
In the eighth inning the Vikings tied the game using a catcher's interference call with the bases loaded and a RBI single immediately afterwards to do so. Both teams put a runner on second base in the ninth inning, but neither team could bring that runner home which sent the game to extra innings.

After a scoreless 10th inning, Sam Cecil brought home Hudson Couch with an RBI single in the 11th inning to put Covenant up 5-4.

Berry had a runner on third base with one out in the bottom of the frame, however RHP Brady Daniell recorded a lineout and a groundout to clinch the win for the Scots.

Covenant moves to 8-34 all-time against Berry. The Scots threw five pitchers with Daniell (3 IP, 3 H, 0 ER) picking up the win. RHP Christian Vander Veen (2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K), RHP Zach Barrett (2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 2 HBP), RHP Jake Schock (3 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K), and RHP Bryce Bollinger (1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB) also pitched.
