The community is invited to support local families in need by donating to a Canned Food Drive happening on Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Shop On Main, at 5722 Main Street, Collegedale, Tn. 37363.
Commissioner Laura Howse and her husband Jon Howse will be onsite with the Apison Food Pantry Van to collect non-perishable food items and plastic grocery store bags, which are used to distribute food to families in need.
This special event is a collaboration between Commissioner Laura Howse and Vice Mayor Tonya Sadler, who teamed up to support both local families in need and small businesses in the area.
The event will be held during Shop On Main’s Sizzlin Summer Sale, making it easy for visitors to give back while shopping local.
“This is a great opportunity to shop local and help our neighbors at the same time,” said Ms. Sadler.
“Summer is one of the most difficult seasons for food pantries because kids are out of school and families are stretched thin,” said Ms. Howse.
The Apison Food Pantry currently serves approximately 300 families from Collegedale, Apison, Ooltewah, and surrounding areas. With rising demand and dwindling summer donations, every can and bag truly counts.
Community members are encouraged to drop off canned vegetables, fruits, tuna, pasta, peanut butter, and other shelf-stable items, as well as clean plastic grocery bags.
