Here is the weekly road construction report for District 29:

BRADLEY COUNTY SR-60 widening from the 4-lane north of I-75 (LM 17.2) to SR-306 (LM19.9): During this reporting period, the contractor will continue asphalt paving, final pavement markings, and finishing work throughout the project. Intermittent flagging operations will take place as needed for various work activities. Motorists are advised to use caution in the work zone and watch for flaggers assisting with traffic control. BRADLEY COUNTY I-75 [15.35-19.309] from MM 31 to MM 35 (McMinn County Line) resurfacing: The contractor will continue paving operations. This work will require temporary lane closures in both directions, which will occur Sunday nights through Friday nights 8 PM to 6 AM. Motorists should exercise caution and pay attention to construction signage. The speed limit will be reduced during paving operations.

HAMILTON COUNTY I-75 at I-24 Interchange Reconstruction Phase 2: Nightly Lane closures will occur on this project, 9 PM to 6 AM, on I-75 North and South between Exit 1 (East Ridge) and Exit 3A (East Brainerd Road/ SR-320) and on I-24 East and West from Germantown Road to Spring Creek Road, MM182 to MM185, for various construction activities. These closures may temporarily reduce traffic to a single lane. Uniformed police officers will be present in these work zones to assist with traffic management and to enforce traffic laws. (Note: Overhead sign work will resume on I-75 (North and South) and on I-24 (East and West). On Thursday (8/21) night (9 PM to 6 AM), crews will be closing lanes on I-75 South near East Brainerd Road to install an overhead structure and sign. Between Sunday, August 24th and Thursday, August 28th there will be nightly closures from 9 PM to 6 AM on I-24 East and West for installation of signs on the new median barrier wall from Germantown Road to the I-75 interchange. Traffic on interstates may be reduced to a single lane and/or rolling roadblocks used to temporarily stop traffic (15 minutes or less) while crews install signs or overhead structures. The outside lane on I-24 East from near McBrien Road to the I-75 interchange will be temporarily closed from Wednesday, August 20th through Friday, August 22nd. Four (4) of the Five (5) lanes in this area will remain open as crews repair/replace stone shoulders in this area damaged by recent record rains. There will be nightly (9 PM to 6 AM) closures on I-75 North and South on Tuesday, August 26th and Wednesday, August 27th. These closures are necessary to safely allow construction crews to set beams on the new bridge over the railroad just south of the East Brainerd Road interchange. The entrance ramp from South Terrace (between S. Moore Road and McBrien Road) onto I-24 East is temporarily closed for approximately 2 weeks to facilitate road work that cannot be done under traffic. A new entrance ramp from South Terrace (between Belvoir Avenue and S. Moore Road) has been opened and detours to this new entrance ramp have been posted. The I-24 West entrance ramp at Germantown Road is closed for noise wall installation work that will continue for the next 2 to 4 weeks. Detours are posted for the ramp closure to an alternative entrance.) It may be necessary to do short duration (15 to 30 minutes) rolling roadblocks during the day or night for patching potholes, clearing debris or repairing guardrail, attenuators, etc. Portions of the left lane on North and South Terrace between Germantown Road and Spring Creek Road will remain closed for the installation of drainage structures, sanitary sewers, retaining and noise wall construction. The entrance and exit ramps to I-24 between Belvoir Avenue and Moore Road are currently closed (Note: A new entrance ramp from North Terrace to I-24 West is now open in this area. A new entrance ramp and exit ramp to I-24 East from South Terrace has been opened. Please look for detour signs giving directions to access these new ramps.). HAMILTON COUNTY SR-17 (ST. ELMO AVE.) Utility Work both directions from LM 0.83 to LM 0.76: Lane closures with temporary red light on SR-17 (St. Elmo Ave) between the intersections with W 48th St and W 49th St Road. A detour for pedestrians and cyclists will in in place. Motorists should reduce speed and be prepared to stop. HAMILTON COUNTY SR-2 (BRAINERD RD.) Utility Work westbound at LM 14.31: Flagger assisted lane closures on SR-2(Brainerd Rd) at the intersection of Spring Creek Rd. HAMILTON COUNTY SR-2 (LEE HWY.) Utility Work both directions from LM 15.55 to LM 15.98: Flagger assisted lane closures on SR-2(Lee Hwy) from Aiken Dr and Charles Dr. Motorists should reduce speed and be prepared to stop. Trucks, arrow boards/message boards, flaggers, and barrels/cones will be present, 08/22/25 with a rain date of 09/02/25, from 9 am - 2 pm. [2025-525]

 

HAMILTON COUNTY SR-2 (LEE HWY.) Utility Work northbound from LM 16 to LM 17: Lane closures on SR-2 (Lee Hwy) from the entrance of Sam's Club to south of Van Ness Road. Motorists should reduce speed and be prepared to stop. Trucks, arrow board/message boards, personnel, and barrels/cones will be present, 08/11/25 thru 08/27/25 from 9 am - 2 pm. [2025-477]

 

HAMILTON COUNTY SR-27 (ROSSVILLE BLVD.) Utility Work both directions at LM 6.73: Law enforcement and flagger assisted lane closures on SR-27 (Rossville Blvd) at the intersection of 37th St. Motorists should reduce speed and be prepared to stop. Trucks, arrow board/message boards, flaggers, and barrels/cones will be present, 08/07/25 through 8/29/25 from 9 am - 2 pm. [2025-436]

 

HAMILTON COUNTY I-75 at the Hamilton Place Mall interchange: The SR-153 southbound ramp to I-75 northbound has been reduced to one lane. Traffic shifts have been implemented on I-75 northbound, Shallowford Road entrance ramps, and Shallowford Road exit ramps and Hamilton Place Mall exit ramp. Hamilton Loop Road is closed for retaining wall construction and storm drainage installation between the intersections near Markman’s Jewelers and Texas Roadhouse. The contractor has implemented a traffic shift on Hamilton Place Blvd. shifting NB and SB traffic to the east side of the existing roadway from near the I-75 SB on-ramp to near Bams Drive for the installation of storm drainage. The contractor will maintain 1 lane of traffic in each direction throughout this area. The speed limit has been reduced on I-75 throughout the project limits. Nightly lane closures are permitted 8 PM to 6 AM. Motorists should use caution, paying attention to construction signage and watching for construction vehicles and personnel.

HAMILTON COUNTY SR-29 [20.72-25.756] from SR-111 to Old Dayton Pk. Resurfacing: The contractor plans to begin construction on the SR-111 SB to US-27 NB ramp and the US-27 SB to SR-111 NB ramp, 08/25/25. The contractor plans to temporarily shift traffic to accomplish this work. Additionally, the contractor plans to begin resurfacing prep at the intersections of US-27/Highwater Road and US-27/McCallie Ferry Road this reporting period. This work will require temporary lane closures on US-27 and the intersecting roads. All work is planned during daytime hours.

HAMILTON COUNTY SR-8 [5.04-5.27] from Bachman Tubes to Bachman Tubes Tunnel Cleaning: The Bachman Tunnel will be closed 08/21/2025 from 8 PM to 6 AM for cleaning. A detour will in effect during the closures to direct traffic to alternative routes. This work is weather permitting.

MCMINN COUNTY SR-2 (US-HWY. 11) Utility Work both directions from LM 16.81 to LM 19.61: CR-255 & Burn Rd Flagger assisted lane closures on SR-2 (US-11) betweenCR-255 & Burn Rd. MCMINN COUNTY SR-30 (TENNESSEE AVE.) Utility Work both directions from LM 19 to LM 21: Flagger assisted lane closures on SR-30 from Cooper Street to Sable Road to 6th Street. MCMINN COUNTY I-75 [0-2.06] from MM 35 (Bradley County Line) to MM 37 resurfacing: The contractor will continue paving operations. This work will require temporary lane closures in both directions, which will occur Sunday nights through Friday nights 8 PM to 6 AM. MCMINN COUNTY SR-39 from west of Cook Drive to SR-30 and from SR-310 to the Monroe County Line: During this reporting period, the contractor will complete punch list work on SR-39. Motorists should be aware of workers in the area performing this work. Intermittent lane closures and flagging operations around the work area will be necessary.

POLK COUNTY SR-68 construction of bridge over Brush Creek (LM 16.4): During this update period, the contractor will continue sodding and final pavement markings. A temporary traffic signal system is active on SR-68 near LM 16.4. The northbound lane of SR-68 will be closed in the area controlled by the temporary traffic signal system. POLK COUNTY SR-68 over SR-40 the construction of bridges: During this reporting period the contractor will continue construction on the SR-68 North bridge. All SR-68 traffic is using the existing SR-68 South bridge while construction occurs on the new SR-68 North bridge. All SR-40/SR-68 interchange traffic will utilize the SR-68 South interchange ramps. A temporary 3-way stop has been implemented at the intersection of the SR-40 interchange ramp and SR-68. Motorists are encouraged to slow down when entering the construction zone and look out for new stop signs on SR-68 near the SR-40/SR-68 interchange.

RHEA COUNTY SR-29 [14.66-19.879] from Boofer Lane to Metzger LN Resurfacing: Paving operations will continue during this reporting period. The contractor will utilize temporary lane closures from 7AM to 6PM during paving operations. Motorists should use caution while traveling on this route and pay attention to all construction signage.

REGION 2 The on-call concrete pavement repair at various locations on various Interstate and State Routes: The contractor will be repairing concrete pavement on the ramps at I-24 exit 127. All 4 ramps on I-24 at exit 127 will be worked on. This work will require the narrowing of each ramp with a minimum open lane width of 10 feet. Please use caution when driving through the work zones.

REGION 2 Dynamic Message Sign (DMS) Life Cycle Replacement: Shoulder Closures will be in place at Bradley I-75 NB at MM 27.2, McMinnI-75 SB at MM 42.2, and Marion County I-24 WB at MM 156. Trucks will be entering and exiting the work zone during daytime hours.

REGION 2 The drain cleaning on various Interstate and State Routes: Drain cleaning operations are planned on various routes throughout Region 2. This is a mobile operation along the shoulders with impacts to adjacent traffic lanes. Temporary lane closures maybe utilized to complete this work. These operations will occur at night Sunday through Thursday between 8 PM and 6 AM.

REGION 2 The on-call guardrail repair and new guardrail installation on various Interstate and State Routes: The contractor will have short term shoulder and/or lane closures in order to perform guardrail repair. These closures will take place on the interstate nightly Sunday through Thursday from 7 PM to 6 AM and daily Monday through Friday on state routes. At least one travel lane will remain open to traffic at all times on the interstate, and flaggers will be present on state routes during any work that is performed.

REGION 2 The random on-call attenuator repair on various Interstate and State Route: The on-call attenuator repair contractor will have a short-term lane closure of the SB left turn lane on Putnam County SR-136 LM 2.26 to repair the attenuator in the median. REGION 2 The sweeping on various Interstate and State Routes: Sweeping operations are planned throughout Region 2 this reporting period. Sweeping operations are mobile operations along the inside and outside shoulders with impacts to adjacent traffic lanes. These operations will occur at night between 8 PM and 6 AM for interstates and high traffic state routes, while daytime sweeping can be anticipated between 9 AM to 3 PM for lower traffic state routes.

REGION 2 Thermoplastic retracing on various interstate and state routes: The contractor will be on site in Coffee County on SR-55 from LM 13.824 - 24.559, Franklin County on SR-50 from LM 11.490 - 14.040, Grundy County on I-24 EB/WB from LM 4.500 - 7.310, Marion County on SR-2 from LM 11.760 - 15.230, and Marion County I-24 EB/WB from LM 0.000 - 6.350. During this work, the contractor will utilize a mobile operation with mobile message boards and an attenuator truck. Motorists are encouraged to slow down as they approach the work and should be aware of the potential of stopped or slowing traffic.

These closures will take place on the interstate nightly Sunday through Thursday from 7 PM to 6 AM and daily Monday through Friday. At least one travel lane will remain open to traffic at all times. Typically, only a shoulder closure will be used in the median, but lane closures will be employed as needed.
