Hamilton County School Board members approved a significant fee increase for the Tyner Academy cheerleading program Thursday evening, raising costs from $500 to $1,900 per student. The 280 percent increase was requested by Principal Rashaad Williams after the school changed cheer coaches and received parent feedback about expanding the program. Efforts to scrap TVA for parts and sell to private industry for pennies on the dollar are not new. Even before TVA existed, the dam and munitions plant at Muscle Shoals was the subject of the same debate after WWI; the fight by George Norris to keep that from happening is part of the reason Norris Dam bears his name.
