The Middle Tennessee women’s tennis team won five of six singles matches Saturday and defeated Chattanooga 6-1.
The Blue Raiders, ranked 61st nationally, claimed two of three doubles matches to win the doubles point. Middle Tennessee also won all but the No. 5 singles match.
UTC’s Saskia van Velze defeated Stacy Varnell 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 singles for the Lady Mocs’ only point on the day. UTC’s doubles tandem of Daniela Greco and Katie Hangstefer beat Tanja Buchheim and Michaela Gridling 8-5 for the team’s only doubles victory.
Middle Tennessee, who improved to 6-8 on the season, got singles wins from Manon Kruse at No. 1, Buchheim at No. 2, Gridling at No. 3, Carien Vente at No. 4 and Niger Kaur at No. 6.
The Lady Mocs, who have lost three straight matches, fall to 3-7. They travel to UNC Greensboro Tuesday.
