There is a new restaurant in town serving Japanese, Chinese and Korean dishes. It is Kinza Japanese Restaurant located at 6231 Perimeter Drive, in the former Asia Garden location (and the former Golden Dragon) at the Home Depot center.

We enjoyed our visit to Kinza, as the restaurant interior is nicely done and the people working there are friendly and helpful in assisting you. However, we thought some of the entrees were a little pricey. Wayne and I concluded that the prices are on the order of Kanpai or Ichiban, but without the show.

For example, I ordered the Filet Mignon, which was priced at $15.95 served with soup, salad, rice, vegetables and dessert. Att Kanpai for $16.95, I get all of the same items but I also get shrimp and entertainment. We enjoyed the food; it's just that personally we felt it was too pricey. Another thing was that I ordered my filet medium rare and it arrived well done, which I do not like and do not eat.

Wayne ordered the Teriyaki combo (chicken and steak). This is served with the same items I mentioned above for a price of $17.95. Wayne and I both enjoyed the vegetables that included broccoli and carrots, which were cooked perfectly – done, but still crisp.

As an example of the pricing, the Sushi dinner is $12.90 while a few blocks away, I get the Sushi Special for $9.50 in the evening and $7.50 during the day – also accompanied by soup and salad.

The restaurant is definitely worth a visit since the food is delicious – and you may have a different opinion of what you consider “pricey”. Kinza has a complete menu of tasty items including appetizers (cold and hot - $1.50 to $9.95), noodles ($6.25 - $7.50), Teriyaki and Hibachi ($9.95 to $17.95), Tempura ($7.95 to $13.95), and Katsu ($9.95 to $10.95) as well as several salads and a Sushi bar. In the cold appetizers category Kinza offers a selection of Sashimi dishes while the hot appetizers include several tempting items such as Soft Shell Crab (deep fried with Ponzu sauce) and Cheese Ball (deep fried cream cheese wrapped with crab cake).

When you go, you need to better explain how you want your steak prepared because I didn't seem to get it across (musta been my southern accent) - and be prepared to pay. If you go for lunch, the prices are much more in line with other restaurants. Special lunch prices are from $5.95 to $9.50 and include the entrée plus fried rice and your choice of soup or salad.

Hours for Kinza Japanese Restaurant are Tuesday through Saturday 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. for lunch; Tuesday through Thursday dinner is served from 4:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday until 10:30 p.m. Sunday they serve dinner only from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Kinza is closed on Monday.

Don’t forget - - - Be sure and check out the contest currently underway on the Dine Out web site. You could be the lucky winner of a fabulous night out.

And remember – if you know anyone who eats out a lot we have the perfect gift for them or even for yourself. We still have a few of the Adventures coupon books with even more coupons – 86 in all. These coupons are good until December 30, 2002. These are perfect gifts for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and many other occasions. By using our Adventures book during 2001, Wayne and I saved over $436 that would have been spent out of our own pockets – and we didn’t even use all the coupons. To make shopping easier for you, we now have credit card capability on the Chattanooga Dine Out site. We ship the same day you order (unless it’s Sunday) so your books should be received within approximately three days.
