There was literally no time like the present for Lindsay Moffett and Sara Hammon to earn their trips to the 2005 Miss Tennessee Pageant.

Ms. Moffett was named Miss Scenic City 2005 and the Miss Metropolitan 2005 title was bestowed on Ms. Hammon Sunday afternoon at the competition held at Ooltewah Middle School. It was the final day for Miss Tennessee local preliminaries statewide and Ms. Moffett and Ms. Hammon took full advantage of the opportunities.

Ms. Moffett, who was 2nd runner-up for the 2004 state title, is a sophomore at Maryville College. She dazzled the judges and audience with her vocal rendition of “Birth of the Blues” which earned her the top talent prize along with the People’s Choice Award. She received her crown from the 2004 winner, Ashley Brooks, who was first runner-up at Miss Tennessee and is now a graduate student in piano performance at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

Meanwhile, Sara Hammon’s debut at a Miss Tennessee preliminary was impressive and even more so due to the fact that rarely does a first time entrant place, let alone win a title.

Ms. Hammon, a senior at Chattanooga Christian School who plans to attend Carson Newman College where she will major in psychology, won the judges’ approval with her jazz vocal of “Cry Me A River.” She also won the interview competition and wore a bright yellow halter gown during the evening wear event.

Ms. Hammon, a cheerleader, also volunteers at the Chambliss Home and is involved in the planning for the Orange Grove Center Prom.

Tiffany Collier of Kingsport and Memphis resident Jackie Patterson were the runners-up.

Ms. Moffett and Ms. Hammon are among 10 women from the Chattanooga area who will compete with 27 other women for the 2005 Miss Tennessee title in June at the Carl Perkins Civic Center in Jackson.
