County Mayor Claude Ramsey met with students and teachers on Wednesday at Wallace A. Smith Elementary School to announce the second grade as grand prize winners of the Hamilton SHINES Anti-Litter Contest.
Under the direction of Ms. Christie Maupin, Guidance Counselor at Smith, students used a multi-faceted approach including making posters and distributing them in their community, taking a “no litter” pledge, performing a no-litter song for all students at the school, and organizing a year-round clean campus program.
County Mayor Ramsey recognized and congratulated the second grade for their hard work before the whole school at their morning assembly. As grand prize winners, the one hundred second grade students and about 30 teachers and parents were given an all expense paid trip to Fall Creek Falls State Park. After the brief presentation, the mayor dismissed them to waiting busses for that trip.
Over 27 Schools who participated in the contest will receive a free GeoSafari talking globe for their classroom.
