The Chumley/Orr Gallery in Cleveland will be featuring the sculptural works of two Chattanooga artists, Isaac Duncan III and A. Lucinda Linderman, in a new exhibit opening on Friday. The exhibit will continue through Friday, Aug. 11.

A reception will be held on Friday, July 14, from 5-8 p.m. The Chumley/Orr Gallery is located at 237 Inman Street, East, across from The Museum Center at Five Points.

Isaac Duncan III is a Brooklyn, N.Y. native and Afro-Cuban descendant. He took his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame, and his Master of Fine Arts degree in sculpture from the University of Kentucky.

Mr. Duncan has taught art in St. Joseph, Mi., sculpture at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, and digital image making at Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Ky. Mr. Duncan’s work has been exhibited in numerous venues including Governor State University, University Park, Illinois, Krasl Art Center, St. Joseph, Mi. South Bend Regional Museum of Art, South Bend, In., and the Headley-Whitney Museum in Lexington, Ky. His work is represented in many public and private collections in the U.S. and the United Kingdom.

Mr. Duncan is currently the supervisor for internationally renowned sculptor John Henry.

Ms. A. Lucinda Linderman, a native of Chattanooga, took her Bachelor’s degree from Southern University in Collegedale, and studied at Collegio Segunto, Segunto, Spain, Chattanooga State and UTC.

About her work, Ms. Linderman said, “The organic forms that I create seem to me to be innate. I recently rediscovered drawings that I made when I was a child, the basic shapes of which trace the same organic forms that I am now working with, these shapes that have always been in my mind. A love of nature and an intense drive toward discovery led me to pursue a degree in biology. I became intrigued by bacterial structure… Ultimately, all of this contributed to the formation of my aesthetic. The forms that I envision and create are the simple shapes that I have seen all my life, tense with kinetic energy… fluid and natural.”

Ms. Linderman’s work has been exhibited at various venues in Chattanooga including the Center for Creative Arts, The Hunter Museum of American Art, the Association for Visual Artists Gallery, and at the Ann Tower Gallery, Lexington, Ky., Phaello Gallery, Miami, Florida, Hamilton Gallery, Flowery Branch, Georgia, and the Creative Arts Guild Gallery in Dalton, Ga.

Ms. Linderman currently works as Studio Manager for sculptor John Henry in Chattanooga.

The Chumley/Orr Gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Inquiries may be directed to Jere Chumley or Jack Orr at (423) 614-5732 or email to: chumleyorrgallery@hotmail.com.
