Outdoor Chattanooga and the Hunter Museum of American Art will host a playful outdoor scavenger hunt on Saturday, Oct. 18, 1 p.m., at Greenway Farm in Hixson, TN.
Part of the Sublime in Art and Nature series, the Object Project Scavenger Hunt will challenge participants to find specific objects by hiking and cycling the pathways of Greenway Farm. Once the objects are collected, each scavenger will receive a free pass to the Hunter to view Object Project, the new temporary exhibit at the museum.
The Object Project exhibit is the result of an experiment where 15 different artists from around the U.S. were given the same five objects and then challenged to create a work of art. Organized by artists in conjunction with the Evansville Museum of Arts, History and Science, Indiana, the exhibition takes a look at how individuals perceive the creative process even while using similar objects in their works. The exhibit will hang at the Hunter through December 28, 2008.
Saturday's scavenger hunt is free, but reservations are required by Friday, Oct. 17. To participate or learn more, call the Hunter Museum at (423) 752-2053.
Sublime in Art and Nature is a series of free outdoor activities, sponsored by the Hunter Museum and Outdoor Chattanooga, which connect people to nature and current exhibits at the Hunter Museum. Through outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, kayaking, climbing and canoeing, the program's goal is to give the participants physical "clues" to make esthetic connections to visual art and artists.
At each event, participants are guided through an outdoor adventure and introduced to relevant works of art. After the activity, participants receive free passes to the Hunter Museum to view a current exhibit.
Activities in 2008 have included urban and woodland hikes, a guided kayak trip in downtown Chattanooga, and the scavenger hunt.
