The Master Gardeners of Hamilton County, in association with the University of Tennessee Extension, continue their Third Saturday Free Gardening Classes with “Tennessee Smart Yards,” presented by Master Gardener Ann Brown this Saturday at 10 a.m. Master Gardener Ann Brown will present at the class.
MGHC’s Third Saturday Free Gardening Classes take place at the UT-Hamilton County Extension, 6183 Adamson Circle, off Bonny Oaks Drive in Chattanooga.
Ms. Brown said, “Are you a new homeowner? Or just want to give your yard a makeover? This class will show you how to breathe new life into your landscape with Tennessee Smart Yards, a free, self-paced online program demonstrating that small changes can have a big impact on our environment. Combining simple steps and cost-effective resources, Tennessee Smart Yards helps both novice and experienced gardeners create outdoor spaces that are greener, cleaner and kinder to nature — while conserving water and restoring nature’s balance. Through this beneficial program, we can grow landscapes that are beautiful and deeply connected to the life around us.”
Officials said, "An experienced master gardener, Ann Brown has created a series of environmentally conscious gardens filled with native plants that encourage pollinators at her home in Lookout Mountain. In addition to establishing her own certified Smart Yard, Ann’s plantings have earned recognition as a certified butterfly garden. She is also a member of several local and national organizations that encourage preservation of our natural environment, including Bee City USA, Journey North (tracking migratory species), the North American Butterfly Association, the Tennessee Ornithological Society, Tennessee Valley Wild Ones, and the Xerces Society."
