Charles Clinton Slover
Charles Clinton Slover, 81, is now in the glorious presence of Jesus. He departed this life at home with his family on August 10, 2025, from the ravages of Alzheimer’s.
Charles was born in Memphis, on Jan. 12, 1944, to Dorothy Click Slover and Clinton Fredrick Slover, both now deceased.
Charles grew up in Memphis, where he attended Treadwell School from kindergarten through high school graduation. That fact qualified him for membership in the Treadwell Twelve Year Club. He always enjoyed making people laugh, and in his senior year of high school he was chosen by his classmates as the “Wittiest Boy”. An activity he enjoyed in school was playing trombone in the junior high band.
Following high school, Charles attended the University of Tennessee, Martin, Tn., then he transferred to UT Knoxville, where he received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering and was a member of Pi Tau Sigma, Honorary Mechanical Engineering Society. His first employment as an engineer was with ALCOA in Maryville, Tn. After a few years there, Charles’ interest in business led him to attend the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he received an MBA. He subsequently worked in sales management for Hilti Fastening Systems, BASF Wyandotte, and as national sales manager for Sel-Rex Plating Systems in New Jersey. In 1983, Charles moved his family to Signal Mountain, and became the owner of Roto Form Mfg. Corp., which made equipment to support the circuit board assembly business worldwide.
Charles made his profession of faith in Jesus at a Billy Graham crusade in Memphis, when he was a youngster; and his faith in the Lord was always the guiding principle in his life. His favorite verse in Scripture was, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” (Proverbs 4:23, NIV) He was honored to have been ordained as a deacon at First Baptist Church, Chattanooga in 1986. He was currently a member of Signal Mountain Bible Church where he had been active in the Men’s Ministry.
Charles dearly loved his family and took great joy in the role of father to his two daughters, Sally and Katie. He and his wife, the former Diane Wiley of Marietta, Ga., met in June, 1963, when Charles went to Marietta to work at Lockheed Aircraft as part of an engineering co-op scholarship program. On a Sunday evening, he visited Roswell Street Baptist Church, where Diane was a member. As he was entering the church, so was Diane. He politely asked, “Are you new here too?” The rest, as they say, is history. In 1966, Charles and Diane were married in that church. They have taken their daughters to visit that exact spot where their parents first saw each other. It was a sweet moment. Charles was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, son-in-law, brother-in-law, and friend.
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Diane; his daughters, Sally Diane (Lee) Pargeon of Signal Mountain, and Katie Lane (Alex) Panou of Whitby, Ontario, Canada; and grandchildren, Lauren Panou and Grant Panou. Other survivors include his sisters, Laverne Yancey of Memphis, and Norma (Ed) Dunivant of Farragut, Tn.; brother-in-law, John David Wiley of Powell, Tn.; nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews.
Charles' family deeply appreciates the kind, compassionate, and skilled care given to Charles by Hearth Hospice. Abundant thanks goes to the staff, both in the office and in the field, who aided Charles in any way.
Pallbearers for Charles’ funeral will be John David Wiley, Bill Thornton, Joe Taylor, Lee Pargeon, Alex Panou, and David Hudson.
