Michael Alan Weller, 57, died in his home in late July of natural causes.

He was born the son of Richard and Janice Weller on August 27, 1967, and was a lifelong resident of Hamilton County Tennessee. Michael received a bachelor's degree in Exercise and Sport Science from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and a master’s degree in administration and supervision from Trevecca Nazarene University. He had a 31-year career as a physical education teacher in the Hamilton County School System.

For the past 18 years, he taught at Apison Elementary which he dearly loved and cherished. He was beloved by students, their families, and co-workers and was deeply valued as a member of the Apison family. He brought energy, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to students each day. Whether he was leading a game in the gym or encouraging a shy student to try something new, Coach Weller had a way of making every child feel seen, supported, and valued. He was loved by so many.

Coach Weller dedicated his life to the physical education program he established and implemented, and it truly showed. He loved the children and wanted his class to be a fun and happy time. Believing that time in the gym or on the playground be backgrounded by music from the 80s and 90s. Students will always hear Coach Weller's songs and be reminded of the man who made the music come alive.

Michael was a championship powerlifter who competed in many competitions and won numerous awards. He loved working out and sharing his passion for working out with others. He was a wrestling coach, track and field coach, and cross-country coach. He will forever be remembered for his track shirt designs which he spent countless hours over, wanting his to be the best.

Michael Weller's presence, his coaching, his encouragement, his teaching, his "can-do" attitude will forever be a part of those who, under his tutelage, were mentored physically and mentally. With his signature sunglasses, lanyard, and tennis shoes, he was a Dr. Seuss character in real life who spoke in funny voices, created games like donut-on-a-stick and chicken taco.

He was beloved by so many and will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Survivors include Michael’s wife of 23 years, Ashley; son, Reed (Paris); father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Paulette Winkler; sister-in-law, Lindsay (Tyler); and brother, Todd (Amy). He was preceded in death by his parents, family members and special friends.
